Redmi Note 17 Pro Max tops two battery tests, but Europe gets a smaller cell
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max topped two independent drain-test rankings with a 10,000mAh battery. Europe's model has a smaller 9,210mAh cell and needs its own test.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max has taken the top spot in two established YouTube battery tests, while fitting its huge cell into a chassis roughly the size of an iPhone 17 Pro Max. The catch arrives in the fine print: the battery that set those channel records is not the one European buyers will get.
Twenty hours of screen time, and it still wasn't done
TechNick ran the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max against six rivals in a controlled 100-to-zero drain test, all brand new, all brightness-matched with a lux meter, all on global software. The iPhone Air died at 8 hours 16 minutes of screen-on time. The iPhone 17 lasted 9:07, the Galaxy S26 10:24, the Galaxy A57 11:13. The Honor 600 Pro with its 7,000mAh cell managed a genuinely startling 15:01. The Honor X9D, whose 8,300mAh battery and Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 make it the closest structural comparison here, hit exactly 18 hours.
The Redmi still had 19 percent left at that point. It eventually stopped at 20 hours and 48 minutes, beating the previous record on that channel, a Poco X8 Pro Max at 16:24, by more than four hours.
PhoneBuff's robot-driven suite told the same story from a different direction, and with a disclosure attached: Redmi partnered on the video and received a test report, though PhoneBuff states the company had no input on methodology and no preview of the result. After an hour of texting the Redmi had dropped one percentage point. After an hour of YouTube it dropped four, the lowest that channel has recorded in that particular test. When the iPhone 17 gave out 43 minutes into Snapchat, the Redmi was at 67 percent. It ran 9 hours and 45 minutes into the final app-cycle loop before dying, taking the top spot in PhoneBuff's all-time rankings from the OnePlus 15.
Both of those phones had 10,000mAh. Europe's has 9,210mAh
Here is where the story splits. TechNick's unit and PhoneBuff's unit were both 10,000mAh single-cell models. The version going on sale in the EU is a 9,210mAh dual-cell design — the biggest battery Xiaomi has ever sold in Europe, per The Verge's Dominic Preston, but roughly eight percent short of the cell that took both records. Notebookcheck logged the same split at launch. Xiaomi's own endurance claim moves with it: 40 hours of video playback in the markets quoting 10,000mAh, 37 hours in the EU material Chigz Tech Reviews and The Verge were working from.
Eight percent will not turn a three-day phone into a one-day phone. But it does mean these independent record-setting results describe hardware Europe cannot buy. The 9,210mAh model needs its own like-for-like drain test before anyone can transfer the 20-hour result to it.
The charging maths runs the other way
Adam Lobo tested a Malaysian 10,000mAh unit for three days without a charger or power bank. He measured 35 percent in 20 minutes, about 85 percent at an hour, and a full charge near 80 minutes. The long wait for 100 percent is less surprising once the unusually large capacity is taken into account.
Lobo's own framing is the useful one: 35 percent of 10,000mAh is around 3,500mAh, more than half a flagship battery, delivered in a shower's worth of time. That is the number that matters day to day, not the time to 100. PhoneBuff's charge test lands in the same place — the Redmi took on an estimated 4,600mAh in 30 minutes against the iPhone 17's 2,500mAh, despite the iPhone showing the higher percentage on screen.
The 27W wired reverse charging is the underrated part. Lobo used the phone to refill an iPhone 17, and Xiaomi's figures put that at roughly 50 percent in 23 minutes. A phone with this much surplus is a power bank that also makes calls.
What got spent to pay for it
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is a 4nm mid-range chip; Chigz recorded a Geekbench multi-core score of 3,017 and rated the phone 85 out of 100 overall. The camera array is a 50MP main with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide, down from the 200MP sensor of the Note 15 Pro line — Android Police's Andy Boxall noted the two-camera back with no telephoto and no macro, while calling early samples bright and contrasty. There is no HDR gap on the Pro Max at least; that compromise lands on the cheaper Note 17 Pro, which Chigz found capped at 480p on HDR YouTube content.
Longevity is the other pitch. Xiaomi rates the cell at 1,600 cycles to 80 percent health, which it presents as roughly six years at a charge every second day, and backs with a five-year battery warranty in markets where that applies. Silicon-carbon chemistry at 16 percent silicon content is dense but young, and the industry's degradation data is thinner than the marketing. The Note 17 Pro Max starts at $499 in launch markets, and Xiaomi has not announced a US release.
