OnePlus Android 17 ships ColorOS. OxygenOS is the option
Stable Android 17 on OnePlus 15, 13 and Pad 4 is ColorOS 17. Europe can stay on OxygenOS for now. Rollback files are still unannounced.

Owners who tap Software update on a OnePlus 15 this week are not being offered OxygenOS 17. They are being offered ColorOS 17. That is the update. OnePlus said in July that OxygenOS would end with this generation, and the files now landing in India make the swap concrete.
The company started early. ComputerBase reports the first stable packages went out on 23 October, six days before the 29 October date OnePlus had published, beginning with the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India. 9to5Google's Ben Schoon wrote on 27 October that the OnePlus 13, 13s and 15R had joined that wave, still mostly limited to India, with the Pad 4 the only model whose update had gone global.
What the July promise actually said
On its community forum in July, OnePlus framed the change as optional. "As part of an operational adjustment to our software strategy, [...] users globally with existing OnePlus devices that fall within the eligible upgrade scope will have the option to voluntarily update to the latest ColorOS." The same post said devices that take ColorOS "will be able to roll back to OxygenOS," with "the specific rollback versions available" left to later announcements.
The same OnePlus statement, as 9to5Google quotes it, still promises "software updates, security patches, and applicable support" for existing devices. It has not published how many years that covers from this point.
ComputerBase reports a sharper split by region. In Europe, the ColorOS 17 move is voluntary: owners can stay on OxygenOS for now, and should be able to roll back after installing ColorOS, but there is no published start date for that optional European prompt. In India, the Android 17 package arriving on the 15 and 13 is ColorOS.
The calendar, and the behaviors to watch
9to5Google's 13 October schedule, matching the roadmap Android Authority's Aamir Siddiqui published the same day, lists the Open, 13R, 12, Nord 6, Nord CE6 and Pad 3 for November, then the 12R, 11, Nord 5 and several Nords and pads through December, with Nord 4 and the N6 family in the first quarter of 2027. Siddiqui wrote that OxygenOS was largely built on ColorOS anyway, so the choice carries little real-world consequence. The remaining practical differences, 9to5Google argued in July, were in the small things: OxygenOS had been better about leaving background apps alone and about how global phones behave. Those are the behaviors to watch after the swap.
OnePlus has left the North American and European product market. ComputerBase notes that customer service, warranty and software updates are still supposed to continue. The catch is the sentence OnePlus wrote itself: rollback builds are "subject to future official announcements." Until those files exist, "voluntary" in Europe is a stay-put choice, and in India it is an Android 17 install that changes the skin.
Owners who want the new Android version should check Settings, then System and updates, and read the changelog for ColorOS 17 before they tap through. Owners who bought a OnePlus specifically for OxygenOS should wait until the rollback package is named, especially in Europe, where ComputerBase says the prompt has not even been dated. The support promise is still a sentence without a year-count attached to it.
