The OnePlus 16 is coming. Whether you can buy one depends on where you live
OnePlus has confirmed a 165Hz screen, and a Chinese certification shows 100W charging. The OnePlus 16 is not expected in the US or Europe, and a new leak suggests India may get the 16R as its top model.

OnePlus is about to launch what could be its most ambitious phone in years, and many of its best-known fans may not be able to buy it. The OnePlus 16 is expected to launch in China in October. The company no longer launches new products in North America or Europe, and India is now uncertain as well.
This is less a spec preview than a guide to what you can realistically buy, depending on where you live.
What OnePlus has confirmed
OnePlus has confirmed two things so far. Li Jie, president of OnePlus China, announced a "global 165Hz ultra-high refresh rate" on Weibo, Notebookcheck reports. He also said the phone will be the first to ship with ColorOS 17. That fixes a longstanding complaint about the OnePlus 15. Its 165Hz mode worked mainly in selected games, and extending it to other apps required a Developer Options toggle that kept the screen at 165Hz. That setting drained the battery.
The second detail comes from a Chinese 3C certification for model PYB110. Digital Trends and tbreak report that the filing confirms 100W wired charging. The tipster Digital Chat Station identifies PYB110 as the OnePlus 16.
What leaks claim
Almost everything else comes from Digital Chat Station, whose Weibo leaks GSMArena and others have reported. The claimed specs are:
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip
- A 9,000mAh battery with 50W wireless charging. tbreak reports a rated capacity of 8,780mAh.
- A 200MP main camera on a 1/1.4-inch sensor. The OnePlus 15 uses a 50MP main camera on a 1/1.56-inch sensor.
- A 50MP periscope telephoto on a 1/1.95-inch sensor, plus a 50MP ultrawide
- Refresh rates up to 185Hz in some games
Treat these as unconfirmed. Leaks also disagree on details: the YouTube channel TechStream has cited a different periscope sensor size. TechStream also argued that the larger main sensor matters more than the 200MP count, because a bigger sensor gathers more light in difficult conditions. The 9,000mAh claim would be a big jump from the OnePlus 15's 7,300mAh battery. Digital Trends, which recommends the OnePlus 15 as a daily-driver flagship, says it can last close to three days for lighter users.
If you live in the US or Europe
OnePlus announced its exit in July. "After careful assessment, OnePlus will no longer launch new products in Europe and North America. All users' rights and interests, including after-sales support and software updates, will remain fully guaranteed," the company told TechCrunch.
Oppo, which owns OnePlus, has added a software change. James Paterson, Oppo's senior PR manager in Europe, told The Verge that "software updates and after-sale support will be guaranteed" in both regions. He said existing devices will move from OxygenOS to Oppo's ColorOS "in the coming months." Oppo Europe CEO Elvis Zhou said owners could roll back to OxygenOS. The Verge noted that this would presumably mean giving up future updates. Oppo would not tell The Verge how it will handle warranty and support in the US, where it will have no presence at all. In Europe, Oppo will keep selling its own phones.
Maurice Klaehne, a senior research analyst at Counterpoint, put it plainly to TechCrunch: "OnePlus built its name as the 'flagship killer' — high-end specs, mid-range price, and aggressive global expansion. That growth era's over. The company is now doubling down on China and retreating from the rest of the world."
You can import a phone, but that carries risks. Digital Trends advises against importing the OnePlus 16 because after-sales service will likely be unavailable in the US. TechRepublic lists other risks: carrier band support, warranty coverage, repairs and regional software features.
If you live in India
India was supposed to be the safe market. OnePlus told Android Authority in July: "OnePlus India continues to operate its business as usual, with all local operations on track. We urge the media to exercise restraint before amplifying unverified speculation."
Since then, tipster Yogesh Brar has claimed that the OnePlus 16R will be the company's top phone in India next year. The Nord series would sit below it, followed by the budget N series. An earlier leak said the standard OnePlus 16 could stay in China. Neither claim has been confirmed. For comparison, 91mobiles notes that the OnePlus 15 launched in China in October 2025 and reached India about a month later.
If the reports are right, the 16R would become OnePlus's top model in India, not just a cheaper version of the flagship. Its specs and price have not been announced.
What to do now
- If you own a OnePlus phone in the US or Europe: you do not need to replace it. OnePlus and Oppo say software updates, security patches and warranty support will continue, although the software will move to ColorOS.
- If you want a new OnePlus phone in those regions: the OnePlus 15 is the last flagship to launch there officially. OnePlus says remaining stock will continue to be sold, and Digital Trends still rates it highly.
- If you are in India: wait for OnePlus to confirm which models will launch, their specs and their prices before choosing between the 16R and an imported 16.
- If you are considering an import: check your carrier's bands, warranty coverage and where you would send the phone for repairs before you order.
